There are three sets of instructions on this page - one if you want to install an Ice Cream Sandwich custom ROM, another for installing a Jelly Bean custom ROM, and the final for installing the official ICS update (only necessary if you want to revert back to the official ROM after you have installed a custom ROM).

We recommend you install an Ice Cream Sandwich custom ROM, since they are stable and usable. All Jelly Bean custom ROMs are currently still in beta, with a lot of bugs and broken features. They are not for everyday use, but they should be stable in a few months.

I want to install a custom Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) ROM (recommended)


  1. Download your chosen custom ICS ROM and save it to your desktop. You will be able to find custom ROMs from MoDaCo. Note, all ROMs with come as zip files and should NOT be extracted.
  2. Download gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip (Do NOT extract) and save it to your desktop.
  3. Disconnect your phone from your computer.
  4. From your phone, go to Settings -> Developer options and make sure USB debugging is NOT ticked.
  5. Reconnect your phone to your computer.
  6. Tap Turn on USB storage.

  7. From your desktop, copy the ROM you downloaded in step 1 (right click on the file -> Copy)
  8. Click the Start button, and then Computer (or My Computer)
  9. You should see 2 devices labeled "Removable Disk". One will be your phone's internal storage, and the other will be your phone's sdcard. Identify which one is your phone's sdcard, as this is the one you need to use.
  10. Right click on the Removable Disk and then click Paste. Remember to paste to the right Removable Disk (your phone's sd card)

    Right click on Removable Disk and click Paste. You should see 2 devices labeled "Removable Disk". One will be your phones internal storage, and the other will be your phone's sdcard. Find out which one is your phone's sdcard, as this is the one you need to paste to.
  11. Wait for the ROM to finish copying. You will not be able to use your phone during this. It is also recommended you do not use your computer.
  12. Go back to your desktop, but this time copy gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip. Paste it to the same Removable Disk as you did with the custom ROM.
  13. Wait for the gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip to finish copying. You will not be able to use your phone during this. It is also recommended you do not use your computer.
  14. Disconnect your phone, turn off your phone, remove the battery, wait 15 seconds, and then reinsert the battery. Do not skip this step or you won't be able to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
  15. Hold the Power on and Volume up button together for 15 seconds, until you see ClockworkMod Recovery, similar to the picture below.

  16. Select install zip from sd card (use the volume down button to move and press the Power button to select).
  17. Select choose zip from sdcard​.
  18. Select the ROM you downloaded and pasted to your phone (it will be a zip file - you may have to scroll to the bottom to find it)
  19. Select Yes - Install <ROM name.zip>
  20. Wait for the ROM to install and you can see Install from sdcard complete. This can take up to 10 minutes.
  21. Select choose zip from sdcard
  22. Select gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip (you may have to scroll to see it)
  23. Select Yes - Install gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
  24. Once complete, press the Back / Return button.
  25. Select advanced
  26. Select Wipe Dalvik Cache
  27. Select Yes - Wipe Dalvik Cache
  28. Once complete, press the Back / Return button.
  29. Select wipe data/factory reset
  30. Select Yes -- delete all user data
  31. Once complete, select wipe cache partition
  32. Select Yes- Wipe Cache
  33. Select reboot system now
  34. You have successfully installed a custom ICS ROM! Your phone will take a few minutes to boot for the first time, so be patient. If it takes longer than 10 minutes, see the troubleshooting below. If you wish, you can safely delete all zip files from your phone and PC.
     

I want to install a custom Jelly Bean (JB) ROM

Please note, all Jelly Bean custom ROMs are currently still in beta, with a lot of bugs and broken features. They are not for everyday use, but they should be stable in a few months. For now, we recommend you install an Ice Cream Sandwich custom ROM.


  1. Download your chosen custom Jelly Bean ROM and save it to your desktop. You will be able to find custom ROMs from MoDaCo. Note, all ROMs with come as zip files and should NOT be extracted.
  2. Download gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip (Do NOT extract) and save it to your desktop.
  3. Disconnect your phone from your computer.
  4. From your phone, go to Settings -> Developer options and make sure USB debugging is NOT ticked.
  5. Reconnect your phone to your computer.
  6. Tap Turn on USB storage.

  14. Disconnect your phone, turn off your phone, remove the battery, wait 15 seconds, and then reinsert the battery. Do not skip this step or you won't be able to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.

I want to install the official Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update


This will reinstall the official ICS ROM. This is only necessary for those who have previously installed a custom ROM, and wish to revert back to the official ICS ROM.

  1. Download recovery-flash-b952.zip and save it to your desktop (Do NOT extract it). Wait for the download to complete.
  2. Disconnect your phone from your computer.
  3. From your phone, go to Settings -> Developer options and make sure USB debugging is NOT ticked.
  4. Reconnect your phone to your computer.
  5. Tap Turn on USB storage.

  6. From your desktop, copy recovery-flash-b952.zip (right click on the file -> Copy)
  7. Click the Start button, and then Computer (or My Computer)
  8. You should see 2 devices labeled "Removable Disk". One will be your phone's internal storage, and the other will be your phone's sdcard. Identify which one is your phone's sdcard, as this is the one you need to use.

  12. Hold the Power on and Volume up button together for 15 seconds, until you see ClockworkMod Recovery, similar to the picture below.

  25. Once complete, select wipe cache partition
  26. Select Yes- Wipe Cache
  27. Select reboot system now
