You need to make sure your phone is running the correct baseband, or you cannot install an Ice Cream Sandwich / Jelly Bean ROM.

  1. From your phone, go to Settings.
  2. Click About Phone
  3. Note the number for "Baseband version".
  4. Click the correct option from below:

My baseband version is 109808

These instructions assume you are running Windows, however the steps should be similar for Mac OS X and Linux.

  1. From your PC, download the B952 ICS Update (385 MB) zip file and save it to your desktop.
  2. Once the download has completed, extract the zip file to your desktop.
  3. From your phone, go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and make sure USB debugging is UNTICKED (Settings -> Developer options for ICS users)
  4. Connect your phone to your computer.
  5. From your phone, tap Turn on USB Storage and then tap OK.
    Tap Turn on USB storage
    Tap Turn on USB storage
  6. Go back to the extracted folder on your desktop (the one you extracted in step 2 above). Find the folder dload, right click on it and click Copy.
Right click on dload and select copy
Right click on dload and click Copy
  7. Click the Start button, and then Computer (or My Computer)
  8. You should see 2 devices labeled "Removable Disk". One will be your phones internal storage, and the other will be your phone's sdcard. Find out which one is your phone's sdcard, as this is the one you will be using.
  9. Right click on the Removable Disk and then click Paste.
Right click on Removable Disk and click Paste
Right click on Removable Disk and click Paste. You should see 2 devices labeled "Removable Disk". One will be your phones internal storage, and the other will be your phone's sdcard. Find out which one is your phone's sdcard, as this is the one you need to paste to.
  10. Wait for the folder to finish copying. You will not be able to use your phone during this. It is also recommended you do not use your computer.
  11. Once the folder has finished copying, go back to your phone and tap Turn off USB storage.
  12. Disconnect your phone from your computer.
  13. Make sure your phone is charged at least 70%. This is to make your battery does not run out during the update.
  14. From your phone, go to Settings -> Storage -> Software Upgrade -> SD card Upgrade.
  15. Tap Confirm.
  16. Tap Upgrade.
  17. Your phone will begin to update. The message on your phone will state it takes 2 minutes to complete, however it may take up to 10 minutes.

    Troubleshooting - Update failed

If you receive update failed during the update, do not worry - this error occasionally pops up and can be fixed by performing a "middle update" first. Follow these instructions to fix the issue:

    1. Take the battery out of your phone and reinsert it. Then, turn your phone on as normal.
    2. Connect your phone to your computer.
    3. From your computer, open your phone's microSD folder, and then open the folder dload and delete the update.app file.
    4. Download this new update.app (1 KB) and copy it to the dload folder on your phone's microSD.
    5. Disconnect your phone from your computer.
    6. From your phone, go to to Settings -> Storage -> Software Upgrade -> SD card Upgrade and tap Confirm, then Upgrade.
    7. Once the update has completed, delete the dload folder from your phone's microSD card and go back to the start of this guide. When you get to step 17 again, the update should perform as normal, without the update failed error message.

  18. Once the update has completed, your phone will begin to boot. This may take a further 5 minutes, so be patient.
  19. Once your phone has fully booted, skip the Huawei Cloud setup (if it comes up).
  20. Reconnect your phone to your computer and tap Turn on USB storage from your phone.
  21. From your computer, find the correct Removable Disk again. Open it up and delete the dload folder you pasted earlier. This will prevent you from accidentally starting the software update again.
  22. You should now be updated to the 2030 baseband and running the latest official ICS ROM (version B952). Continue with this guide if you want to install a custom ICS / JB ROM. Alternatively, you can stop this guide if you are happy with the official ICS ROM your phone is currently running.
